  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 6 primary categories or events used to summarize work related fatalities.  This information provides adjustment information that insurance companies may use to determine their standard workers compensation insurance rates.  These events include transportation incidents, assaults and violent acts, contact with objects and equipment, exposure to harmful substances or environments, and fires and explosions.

    The 5 states with the highest fatalities reported for 2005 were:
