Contractors and small business owners that sub-contract or work with various federal agencies or programs should learn to know and recognize the different Workers Comp programs and initiatives. One such program is the DOL Energy Employees program designed to provide benefits to employees, and past employees, of the Department of Energy, and the various agencies and companies it is associated with.Â
The DOL program is regulated, and follows the terms established by, the governmental act called The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. It also serves people and provides benefits to certain people as outlined in the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.
The program began in 2001 and provides health benefits and financial compensation to workers involved in nuclear weapons industries, persons exposed to certain types of radiation exposures and other eligible employees of the Department of Energy.Â
Who is Covered?
- Eligible workers include employees, as well as former employees.
- Contractors and subcontractors.Â
- Persons exposed to radiation.
- Surviving family members of deceased employees are also eligible.
